What is a good web page?

8 essential criteria for natural referencing in 2025

Having a website is not enough today. To be visible on Google and attract customers, each page must be designed as a strategic building block for your natural referencing.

As a freelance SEO based in Saint-Étienne , specializing in creating SEO-optimized Wix sites , I often see the same shortcomings: pages that are too short, unlinked, poorly structured, or lacking any real consistency with the site's theme.

Here are the essential criteria to respect for a web page to be effective, visible and sustainable.

The quality of your pages is essential in SEO
La qualité de vos pages est primordiale en SEO

1. Semantic consistency with the site

A page must fit naturally into the lexical and semantic field of the site. For example, on a site dedicated to natural referencing , a page talking about "SEO writing", "Google Search Console" or "netlinking" will be considered relevant. On the other hand, an off-topic page dilutes the general theme of the site and harms the overall positioning.

This consistency also allows for better structuring of content around thematic clusters, which are very effective for SEO.

2. Sufficiently long, rich and informative content

Content is the raw material of SEO. A page of 150 to 300 words is rarely enough. For a text to be perceived as relevant by Google, you should generally aim for 800 to 1,500 words , well-organized and relevant.

This allows:

respond precisely to search intentions,
integrate secondary keywords,
demonstrate your expertise.

A dense page also helps capture the user's attention and improve reading time , a behavioral signal favorable to SEO.

3. A clear structure with hierarchical headings

Each page must follow a logical architecture:

Only one H1 per page, containing the main keyword if possible.
H2s for the main sections.
H3s if necessary for subsections.

This structure makes it easier to read, improves accessibility, and helps search engines better understand the content. It also allows you to appear in position zero (featured snippets) if the page is well written.

4. Effective internal networking

A good web page is linked to other pages on the site . This internal linking allows:

to improve navigation,
to guide the user towards additional content,
to distribute SEO authority between pages.

For example, a page dedicated to website creation in Lyon should link to the pages " Wix Offer ", " Natural SEO Rhône-Alpes " or "monthly SEO strategy". This strengthens the cohesion of the site and boosts indexing.

5. Optimized SEO tags: Title and meta description

Each page must have a unique and relevant title , ideally containing the main keyword. The meta description , even if it is not a direct positioning criterion, strongly influences the click-through rate (CTR) .

6. A seamless user experience (UX)

A good web page should load quickly, be responsive (mobile-friendly), and offer well-presented content.

This involves:

a readable font,
clear contrasts,
airy paragraphs,
a structured design.

Good user experience reduces bounce rates and improves conversions. A slow or confusing site, even one with good SEO, will lose traffic over time.

7. Unique and original content

Duplicate content , or text duplication, is a serious problem for SEO. Each page should offer exclusive , useful, and high-value content.

On my own site, for example, each page deals with a specific angle: monthly SEO , all CMS backlinks , Wix optimization , etc.

8. A visible and useful call to action

Each page must have a clear objective : to make contact, book a call, download a guide, request a quote, etc.

This can be translated as:

a "Contact me" button,
a quick form,
a link to a service page.

It's also an important signal for Google, which values engaging pages .

In summary

A good web page isn't just about design. It's about editorial strategy , technical optimization , and smart linking . Whether you're a craftsman, therapist, freelancer, or small business owner, your pages must meet these criteria if you want to rank on Google.
